What is the Umo App?
The Ump App gets you where you need to go. You can buy transit passes with a tap, get directions, find your next bus or train, and move seamlessly wherever life takes you.
The Umo App shows the transportation closest to you so that you can easily buy fare, scan your code to board, and ride.
Download the Umo App and create a Umo account to access the following features:
- Easy Payment – Use your Umo Wallet to buy passes and add or reload cash balances.
- Contactless Boarding – Tap Show Code in your Umo App’s Wallet to use a code for contactless trip validation.
- Trip Planning – anywhere, at any time, and with your own preferences such as arrival time, departure time, least transfers, less walking—and seamless fare-payment for stress-free travel.
- Accessibility – Every screen on the Umo App is optimized for VoiceOver and TalkBack technologies. Simply focus on an element (a button or a label), and VoiceOver / TalkBack reads the selected text aloud.
- Real-Time Information – The Umo App uses real-time data that provides timely and highly accurate trip planning and guidance for both transit and other mobility providers, such as bike-share, car-share, micro-mobility,
- Favorites – Select your Favorite station or stop and opt in to next-stop alerts—so you’re always on-time.
- Localization – The Umo App supports several languages. Simply adjust your Settings to your preferred language.
- Notifications – The Umo App lets you customize your buy, scan and go travel preferences. Receive push notifications for transit-service changes, pass-expiration details, etc.
How to download the Umo App
Download the Umo App on your smartphone from either the Apple App Store (for iPhone devices) or Google Play Store (for Android devices), and set up your account with a mobile phone number, email or username & password.
Once you register your mobile device and create a Umo App account, you can:
- Buy a pass or add a cash balance
- Get directions
- Find your next bus or train
- Board by showing your validation code
How to create a Umo App account (registration)
- Open the Umo App.
- Tap Get started.
- The Umo App notifies you that it wants to know your location, in order to assist you with transit options in your area.
- Tap Allow Once – to allow Umo to determine your location initially
- Tap Allow While Using App – to allow Umo to always recognize your location while you’re using the Umo App
- Select Don’t Allow – to block Umo from determining your location
Tip: The Umo App works best when it can recognize your location – we suggest selecting Allow While Using App.
- Tap Continue and make your location selection.
- Select Allow to get live updates and allow notifications for real-time transit alerts, service updates and more.
- Tap Set up now to set up your account to buy your transit fares and get moving.
- Enter your mobile number or register with your email.
- Enter the 4-digit code and tap Continue.
Your Umo account is successfully created – you’re now able to Explore, Buy & Go!
Tip: You can add or edit your Umo account details by going to the navigation menu
tapping My Account.
How to add a Cash Balance (“stored value”) with the Umo App
You can purchase cash balance (to deposit money in your wallet for later use) by either tapping Buy next to the Buy a pass or add cash under My Wallet on the home screen or going to Wallet > Cash Balance > Add Cash.
If you don’t have a payment method already set up with your transit agency, you can add a payment method to your Umo App account when adding a cash balance.
- From the main screen, tap the Wallet icon.
- On the My Wallet screen, select Cash Balance and then Add Cash.
- On the Select Amount screen, select the appropriate cash balance amount you want to add, and tap Continue.
Note: You can also tap I Want a Different Amount to add a custom amount.
- On the Confirm Your Purchase screen, tap Purchase.
- On the Payment Method screen, enter your payment method information.
Tip: You can also tap the camera icon
to scan your credit or debit card:

- Position your credit or debit card within the frame so that the card number is visible.
- Once your card is scanned, fill in your cardholder name and ZIP code.
- Once you have entered your payment details, tap Continue.
The Umo App confirms your cash balance purchase, and appears in the Cash Balance section of your Wallet.
From here, you can:

- Tap Show validation code to show your validation code to validate your trip, –or–
- Tap Show Cash Balance info to review your cash balance info.
How to purchase a pass with the Umo App
You can purchase a transit pass by either tapping Buy next to the Buy a pass or add cash under My Wallet on the home screen or by going to Wallet > Passes > Buy a pass.
If you don’t have a payment method already set up with your transit agency, you can add a payment method to your Umo account when buying a pass.
- From the main screen, tap the Wallet icon.
- On the My Wallet screen, select Passes and then tap Buy a pass.
- On the Select Pass screen, select the pass you want to purchase.
- On the Confirm Your Purchase screen, tap Purchase.
- On the Payment Method screen, enter your payment method information.
Tip: You can also tap the camera icon
to scan your credit or debit card:

- Position your credit or debit card within the frame so that the card number is visible.
- Once your card is scanned, fill in your cardholder name and ZIP code.
- Once you have entered your payment details, tap Continue.
The Umo App confirms your pass purchase, and appears it appears on the home screen under My Wallet and in the Passes section of your Wallet.
From here, you can:

- Tap Show validation code to show your validation code to validate your trip –or–
- Tap Passes in your Wallet to review your pass details.
How to change the language of the Umo App
You can change your Umo App language preference by tapping the navigation menu and selecting Settings > Preferred language for Umo.
Note: Changing your Umo App language preference requires that you change the language in the Umo App settings on your device.
- Tap the navigation menu
and select Settings.
- On the Settings screen, tap Preferred language for Umo.
You are taken to your mobile device’s Umo Settings.
- Update your Preferred Language.
Your designated Umo App language is updated.
How to add favorite stations and stops with the Umo App
You can add home or work favorite location details by tapping either Home or Work under the Favorites section of the main screen.
Favoriting a location, station or line allows you to quickly see arrival times and receive automatic alerts about issues and delays.
- From the main screen, tap either Home or Work to set your home or work favorites location.
- On the Favorites screen you can add your home or work favorite location by doing one of the following:

- Enter an address in the Type a favorite location to add it to your favorites
- Select Your current location to save your current location to your favorites
- Select Choose a map to select a location on a map and save it to your favorites
- Tap Save.
Your added home or work favorite address appears under the Favorites section on the main screen.
Transit route search (get directions) with the Umo App
You can get directions by selecting the Directions icon and entering a destination in the Where do you want to go? field of the main screen. Once you select your preferred trip route, book it when you’re ready.
Note: Your trip departure point defaults to Your current location. You can tap in this field and enter an alternate starting point in the Choose starting point field.
- On the main Directions
screen, tap Where do you want to go?
- In the Type an address or location field, enter an address or location, or tap Choose on map to locate it.
- Use the Your current location for a departure point or enter another address.
- (Optional) Use the Depart now (or selected option) drop-down list to select one of the following:

- Depart Now – to depart at the present time
- Set your departure time – to depart at a set departure time
- Set desired arrival time – to plan your trip based on a desired arrival time
- Last lines for today – to plan your trip using the last available lines of the day
- (Optional) Tap the Filter option to select your preferred Route Type and Transit Type
- Tap Search routes to search for routes to your destination.
Available routes (filtered by your route- and transit-type preferences) appear.
- Select your preferred route and tap Go.
- View and follow the steps of your trip itinerary.
Ensure you have a pass or funds in your Wallet to pay for your trip.
Get next-arrival details with the Umo App
Next-time arrivals are built in to the Umo app when you select either Stations or Lines.
You can plan a trip by entering a destination in the Where do you want to go? field of the main Directions screen and selecting your preferred trip result.
Your trip departure point defaults to Your current location. You can tap in this field and enter an alternate starting point in the Choose starting point field.
When planning a trip, you can set your preferred trip time by using the options in the Depart now (or selected option) drop-down list.
Umo App alerts and notifications
Once you plan a trip with Umo, get-off alerts are automatically enabled, so that you never miss a stop.
To disable alerts for your current trip, swipe the Get off alerts icon , so that you do not receive stop notifications.
You can customize the Umo App notifications you receive by tapping the navigation menu and selecting Settings > Notifications.
- Tap the navigation menu
and select Settings.
- On the Settings screen, tap Notifications.
On the Notifications screen:
- Under Push Notifications, select the check box next to any of the following to opt in to push notifications related to your selection(s):

- General News – For Umo App new version updates, special promos, etc.
- Metro Area Alerts – For schedule changes, new lines, station closures, etc.
- Favorite Lines Alerts – For service alerts for your favorite lines
- Under Email, select:

- General News – For new version updates, special promos, etc.
- Metro Area Alerts – For schedule changes, new lines, station closures, etc.
- Under In-App Popups, select:

- General News – For new version updates, special promos, etc.
- Metro Area Alerts – For schedule changes, new lines, station closures, etc.
Your selected push and email notification preferences are automatically saved and applied once new notifications become available.
Agency alerts
You can view agency alerts by tapping the navigation menu and selecting Agency Alerts.
